| | The Steelers have been in playoff mode for a month. Yesterday they were finally rewarded with a postseason berth. Pittsburgh needed a win over the Lions to clinch the final spot in the AFC, and Jerome Bettis made sure it happened. In what might have been his final game at Heinz Field, the 33-year-old running back scored three times in a 35-21 victory. It was the Steelers' fourth straight win, and it sets up a terrific wild-card game this Sunday (CBS, 4:30 p.m. ET) between Pittsburgh (11-5) and the division-rival Bengals (11-5). The other AFC wild-card game is also a dandy: The Jaguars (12-4) will play at the Patriots (10-6) on Saturday (ABC, 8 p.m. ET). Like the Steelers, the Redskins needed to win yesterday to earn a postseason berth; Clinton Portis ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-20 victory over the Eagles to ! send Washington to the playoffs for the first time since 1999. The Skins play the Buccaneers (11-5) in an NFC wild-card game on Saturday (ABC, 4:30 p.m. ET), while the Panthers visit the Giants on Sunday (Fox, 1 p.m. ET). Can the Steelers keep it up? No sixth-seeded team has made it to a conference championship game under the NFL's present playoff format. Then again, the league has likely never seen a No. 6 seed as good as Pittsburgh. Please leave us some comments we just love to read. |
